About Us
The Wasatch Freestyle Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to freestyle and freeride education and training. The foundation operates programs at Deer Valley® Resort, Snowbird, Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) and the Utah Olympic Park.
Wasatch Freestyle offers programs for skiers of varied abilities and ages. Our programs are tailor-made to fit your ability and goals.
A modern and safe approach to ski training includes video analysis as well as sports psychology seminars. In addition to this, the Wasatch Freestyle Foundation is able to offer training at the world’s best venues utilizing the Olympic Mogul course at Deer Valley® as well as the terrain park at PCMR. As always, sound technical skiing and a positive learning environment will be the cornerstone of our team experience.
We operate year-round, providing on-snow programs in the Winter, and water ramp and glacier snow programs in the Summer.
COACHES
Jon O’Brien—Director
Former USSA Intermountain Freestyle Champion, USSA Intermountain Team coach, and previously an Assistant Mogul coach with the US Freestyle Ski Team. Jon has 25 years experience coaching USSA Freestyle competitors, many of whom have progressed on to the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team or careers as top professional free skiers. He was the coach of the British Freestyle Ski Team at the 2002 Winter Olympics and coached the U.S. Jr. Mogul Team at F.I.S. Jr. Worlds. Faculty member at the Winter Sports School in Park City.
Rick Shanor
A former top Pro-Mogul Tour competitor, Rick has coached the Intermountain Team at both Junior and Senior National Championships. He was a USSCA mogul examiner and currently operates the Wasatch summer water ramp program. Rick has coached at the X-Games and U.S. Free Ski Open.
Brian Potempa
Former USSA freestyle competitor with many years coaching experience. Brian is also a certified technician for Marker, Tyrolia, Salomon, Look, and professional boot fitter.
Joanne Bromfield
Olympic mogul skier for team Great Britain, she was 5th in moguls at the World Youth Freestyle Skiing Championships.
Gota Miura
Two time Olympian and Two time Japan National Champion. University of Utah graduate.
David Berry
Dave is a former member of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, and Intermountain Freestyle Champion who was ranked 4th in nation for dual moguls. He was a member of Park City High Miners football team in 1990, when they ranked second in Utah.
John Robbins
Former Intermountain Mogul Champion.
Dave Stearns
Dave is a former professional mogul competitor turned big air specialist who does his big mountain skiing at Snowbird. Dave is a certified USFCA coach and graduated in Exercise Sports Science from the University of Utah.
Burke Alder
National and Nor-Am Mogul Competor, BYU Graduate.
Tyler Knowles
Former mogul competitor, now Big Mountain competitor.
Ben Wheeler
Ben is a Big Mountain and Half Pipe star.
AJ Burton
Certified USFCA Coach, he is a Big Air and Slope Style specialist. ’04 USSA Big Air National Champion for Jr.’s and Seniors. AJ won the qualifying round at the U.S. Open ’05 Slope Style Competition and finished 8th over all. Finished 5th in the ’06 U.S. Open Slope Style. ’07 X-games standout. Featured in segment of ’08 Rage film “Such Is Life”.
Tyler Peterson
U.S. World Championship Team member. Top ten in Half Pipe at the World’s. He also competed in the Jon Olson Invitational. First place King of the Wasatch.
Scotty Meyer
Former Rocky Mt. Div. Mogul Champion. Nor-Am and National mogul skier. University of Utah graduate.
